ATELIER ENFANTS – UN CARNAVAL AUX COULEURS DE BOTERO

FERNANDO BOTERO – Würth Collection and Loans
21/9/2015-15/5/2016
The Musée Würth is presenting a wide-ranging selection of works by the Colombian painter and sculptor Fernando Botero. Drawn from the Würth Collection and the artist’s studio, they cover a period stretching from the 1960s up to the present day.

It was after he abandoned his training at one of Colombia’s bullfighting schools that the young Fernando Botero turned his attention towards painting and drawing in the late 1940s.
The following decade saw him travel to Madrid, Paris and Florence to study, and during these periods abroad he tirelessly copied the great masters of Spanish art and the Italian Renaissance.

A decisive turning point came in 1956 with his Still Life with a Mandolin: Botero discovered the importance of communicating the object’s volume, not hesitating to give it a monumental appearance.
From this point on, his unique style revealed itself in his rounded, generous forms, his figures took on a truly Baroque voluptuousness, and his still lifes, with their outsized fruits, acquired an extravagant opulence.
