Imperial Purple to Denim Blue: the Colourful History of Textiles
Dr Susan Kay Williams
Today textiles for clothing and decoration are taken for granted but it was not always so. The lecture looks at how different colours represented power, achievement and desire. This is a story not only of fashion but also politics, money, war, trade, laws, the church, agriculture, exploration, science and even serendipity.
