HANAYUISHI TAKAYA

TAKAYA makes people and flowers more alive as a "HANAYUISHI."
He creates and blooms his artwork on people's hair with his inspirations from "the flowers" in their inner mind.
He doesn't need a concept for his artwork.
How do people feel when they see it?
The answer to that question becomes its concept or title.
Just as flowers bloom and die, his artwork, too, is ephemeral.
"The moment people and flowers become one."
This is what he expresses by "HANAYUI."

“My new works are inspired by one lady, I designed images for her.

My new works used new materials such as stuffed animals, which shows withering/death by contrast with flowers blooming/life.

I prefer Dahlias to work with. Every single flowers has its own power, Dahlias are the strongest flower for me.

My activity is global. This year I participate in "Ikebana and Contemporary Plant Art Exhibition" in Sweden, took charge in an opening performance there.“

There are two different processes of designing headdresses. One is imagining complete figure like a picture in my head and making toward it.
Another way is browsing through the flower markets and chooses flowers, which I feel, strength. Then I actually put one of them on model's hair, that's the beginning of designing.

Born in 1975. TAKAYA started working as a "HANAYUISHI" (flower head dress artist) in Kyoto in 2004.
He has created unique headdresses with fresh flowers using his original technique of artistic hair dressing.

Also, he has given some performances called "KAIKA" in Japan and abroad.
In 2009, he first joined Yumi Katsura's dress collection show as HANAYUISHI and has had his creations in her shows since then. His artwork has attracted international media attention like NHK, The Daily Telegraph, Frame Magazine and so on. He creates commissioned works by collaboration with companies and brands. On the other hand, in his own artwork, he expresses the inspiration he gets from people and flowers, and does "HANAYUI" by improvization. He aspires to challenge people to change the way they perceive "beauty."
