Houston Center for Contemporary Craft is pleased to announce that former curatorial fellow Kathryn Hall was promoted to curator last fall. After receiving a Masters in art history at the University of Georgia, Hall moved to Houston in 2012 to serve as HCCC’s curatorial fellow for nearly three years. During that time, she assisted former curators, Anna Walker and Elizabeth Kozlowski, and served as interim curator for six months. Since October, 2012, she has curated nine exhibitions at the center, including Dining and Discourse: A Discussion in Three Courses, Artifice of Nature, and The Maker's Archive, among others. In 2013, she spearheaded the SPRAWL Speaker Series, the first of its kind at HCCC, which brought together local professionals working in government, architecture, and urban planning to discuss topics related to a large-scale exhibition on the same subject. In the past year, she has written articles for Metalsmith and Studio Potter magazines, as well as essays on two solo exhibitions by Houston artist Edward Lane McCartney. About her new position, Hall commented, “As curator at HCCC, I plan to continue bringing cutting-edge exhibitions to Houston, working with the community-at large to demonstrate the relevance of craft in our everyday lives.”

Sarah Darro became HCCC’s new curatorial fellow after completing a Master’s degree in visual, material and museum anthropology at Oxford University. Her research interests include the materiality of counterculture and domestic spaces; artist communities and collectives; the life histories and agency of objects; and how the built, bodily and social worlds intersect. She has conducted fieldwork, worked with artists, and held positions in museums internationally. Most recently, she worked in Philadelphia as an intern for the Mütter Museum’s fine art collection and as the curatorial research assistant at the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford. At Barnard College of Columbia University, Darro received a dual undergraduate degree in art history and anthropology, which sparked her passion for exhibition design and curating. She is thrilled to have joined the curatorial department at HCCC and looks forward to bringing forth innovative and thought-provoking exhibitions.
