ABOUT KLAUS HAAPANIEMI & CO.
From the start, Klaus Haapaniemi & Co. had a simple and sincere goal; to provide elegant, timeless homeware and lifestyle pieces, all made to the highest possible
quality. To reinstate luxury as something with uniqueness and value.

Posted 14 December 2016

Founded in 2010, the label was built on the knowledge of design, craft and production - experimentation opening the floodgates to innovation year after year.
Having since developed into a complete lifestyle brand, it has become known for its natural affiliation with narrative. Heavily influenced by Finnish folklore and the mysteries of nature, Klaus Haapaniemi & Co. pieces are intended to complement their surroundings by challenging the perceptions of traditional and contemporary design - and as a result, standing the test of time.

THE FOUNDERS
KLAUS HAAPANIEMI
A graduate of the Lahti Institute of Design, Klaus Haapaniemi (1970) grew up in the Finnish countryside, and as a result has always been hugely influenced by nature and the traditional stories it has inspired. With a wildly vivid and often dark imagination, Klaus developed a richly diverse creative style which lead him to a successful design and print career. In addition to acting as the creative director of the Italian fashion house Bantam, Klaus has designed for and collaborated with Cacharel, Christian Louboutin and Established & Sons amongst others - as well as the department stores Isetan, Harrods, Selfridges and Le Printemps. Named by WGSN as ‘one of the most important rising illustrators and designers of our time’, Klaus’ name has become known to represent timeless originality on an international scale.

MIA WALLENIUS
Also born in Finland, Mia is a largely self-taught designer and creative consultant with over 18 years experience in the field. Her wide skill set having seen her grafted in by industry names like Diesel, Hel-Yes and Stella Mc-Cartney where she held Art Director roles. It was at these brands that her knowledge of trends, the manufacturing process and art direction were honed, which was eventually transferred to Klaus Haapaniemi & Co. Mia’s ability to combine both business savvy and a creative eye has been a key factor to the brand’s success - allowing experimentation with both the concept and range of products they’ve been able to offer.

BEHIND THE BRAND
MAKING KLAUS HAAPANIEMI & CO.
Every Klaus Haapaniemi design is born from a narrative concept, crafted in house and then produced in a way that is most sympathetic to both the creative outcome and the materials used. Self-proclaimed perfectionists, they are the first to admit that the beauty of their work is achieved by embracing the imperfections in each design - every one of which requires different production techniques to achieve the best possible results. From silks to metal work, every product is created as uniquely as its concept. This resilient attitude to brand excellence has resulted in international relationships with both material suppliers and factories, each one a leading name in their field.

REDCHURCH STREET
The flagship store on Redchurch street offers a window in the world of Klaus Haapaniemi & Co. With a wide range of products on offer, it cements the brand as a lifestyle experience. With timeless pieces on display ranging from ceramics through to soft furnishings, there is something for every room - which is a very conscious and considered decision.

KLAUS HAAPANIEMI IN JAPAN
Klaus Haapaniemi & Co. has enjoyed international success, but Japan have truly taken the brand to their hearts. The brand has collaborated with respected department store Isetan several times, designer Anna Sui, as well as opening a Pop Up shop to offer products exclusively developed for their Japanese market.

With Klaus’ unique storytelling ability and dedication to creative concepts, collaborations not only produce beautiful outcomes for both parties, but often create a entirely different creative outcome altogether.
