Founded in 2010, the label was built on the knowledge of design, craft and production - experimentation opening the floodgates to innovation year after year.
Having since developed into a complete lifestyle brand, it has become known for its natural affiliation with narrative. Heavily influenced by Finnish folklore and the mysteries of nature, Klaus Haapaniemi & Co. pieces are intended to complement their surroundings by challenging the perceptions of traditional and contemporary design - and as a result, standing the test of time.

THE FOUNDERS
KLAUS HAAPANIEMI
A graduate of the Lahti Institute of Design, Klaus Haapaniemi (1970) grew up in the Finnish countryside, and as a result has always been hugely influenced by nature and the traditional stories it has inspired. With a wildly vivid and often dark imagination, Klaus developed a richly diverse creative style which lead him to a successful design and print career. In addition to acting as the creative director of the Italian fashion house Bantam, Klaus has designed for and collaborated with Cacharel, Christian Louboutin and Established & Sons amongst others - as well as the department stores Isetan, Harrods, Selfridges and Le Printemps. Named by WGSN as ‘one of the most important rising illustrators and designers of our time’, Klaus’ name has become known to represent timeless originality on an international scale.
MIA WALLENIUS
Also born in Finland, Mia is a largely self-taught designer and creative consultant with over 18 years experience in the field. Her wide skill set having seen her grafted in by industry names like Diesel, Hel-Yes and Stella Mc-Cartney where she held Art Director roles. It was at these brands that her knowledge of trends, the manufacturing process and art direction were honed, which was eventually transferred to Klaus Haapaniemi & Co. Mia’s ability to combine both business savvy and a creative eye has been a key factor to the brand’s success - allowing experimentation with both the concept and range of products they’ve been able to offer.

SELFRIDGES
Klaus Haapaniemi was grafted in to create the coveted Christmas windows and point of sale displays for Selfridges department store in London, which then developed into a full instore experience.
ISETAN
A special relationship was created with Japanese store Isetan, with complete store takeovers from windows to floor vinyls - as well as creating various products for sale in the store specifically developed for a Japanese market.
BESPOKE PROJECTS
FINNISH NATIONAL OPERA
An incredibly special collaboration with the Finnish National Opera saw the world of Klaus Haapaniemi literally come to life on stage, with the design of both set and costumes for the production of The Cunning Little Vixen. This narrative then crossed over to a product range produced in conjunction with familiar brand partner, Iittala.
HEL YES
A unique project specific to Finnish culture, Hel-Yes is a contemporary restaurant which coincides with the London Design Festival. With Mia taking on the art director role and Klaus acting the creative director of the project, it is a melting pot of Scandinavian talent.
